Esteemed Colleagues:
Welcome to our second debate tournament of the new school season! We are calling this the Irvine Valley College Winter 2009 Invitational in honor of our host: The Irvine Valley College Speech and Debate Team.
The purpose of this tournament is to provide students with ongoing opportunitities to debate with their peers on a topic, which is both significant and controversial. Students will be given an opportunity to debate once on each side and for the last round the computer will randomly determine the sides.
The January 2009, Public Forum Debate topic is:
Resolved: That, by 2040, the federal government should mandate that all new passenger vehicles and light trucks sold in the United States be powered by alternative fuels.
